The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality offers a starter set for healthcare organizations looking to implement ambulatory care quality measures.
In 2005, a large group of stakeholders, including the Ambulatory Care Quality Alliance, the American Academy of Family Physicians and AHRQ, proposed a starter set of measures for ambulatory care. Although this set of measures was preliminarily approved by the National Quality Forum's expedited review process, the stakeholder group emphasized more work is necessary to build a more comprehensive set of ambulatory care quality measures for healthcare organizations.
The measures cover prevention, coronary artery disease, heart failure, asthma, depression, prenatal care and utilization. The starter set also includes measures for diabetes, though those were not approved during the NQF expedited review.
