Patient Safety Tool: Endoscope Reprocessing Tools

The Oregon Patient Safety Commission offers free, downloadable resources for proper and safe reprocessing of endoscopes.

The endoscope cleaning and reprocessing policy can serve as a template for healthcare organizations in need to establishing a policy for high-level disinfection of endoscopes. It includes essential elements for pre-cleaning, inspection, cleaning, high-level disinfection, rinsing/drying, storing/transport, water bottle and recordkeeping.

The endoscopy reprocessing competency checklist is designed to assess employees' competency across several performance criteria, including equipment, chemical management and endoscopy cleaning and disinfection. This test should be administered before an employee begins his or her responsibilities for reprocessing and routinely after the start of his or her responsibilities.

Download the endoscopy cleaning and reprocessing policy (doc) and competency checklist (doc) for use in your own facility.
