The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offer a free toolkit to help healthcare organizations prevent the transmission of Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae.
CRE infections are difficult to treat and can kill up to half of infected patients, according to the CDC, which recently announced an increase in CRE in the U.S.
The toolkit, "Guidance for Control of Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae," expands on CDC's 2009 recommendations and continues to be updated when new information is available. It includes prevention strategies at both the facility- and region-level as well as an example of a survey for infection preventionists.
