Paramus, N.J.-based New Century Spine and Outpatient Surgical Institute is the first free-standing surgery center to install and use Indigo-Clean continuous environmental disinfecting operating room lights.
Here's what you should know.
1. The surgery center opened in Fall 2016. It installed the lights to provide patients, families and staff a safe environment once they enter the facility.
2. The lights use LEDs to generate both white and indigo colored lights. The indigo lights continuously disinfect the air and soft surfaces. When the operating room is not in use, physicians can switch the lights to indigo-only mode to increase their disinfecting power.
3. Recent studies say the lights kill more than 70 percent of antimicrobials.
