Infectious disease physicians' average compensation jumped 6 percent in 2017, according to the "Medscape ID Physician Compensation Report 2017."
Here are seven things to know;
1. In 2017, ID physicians made $228,000, on average.
2. U.S.-trained ID physicians on average made $226,000, 4 percent less than foreign-trained ID physicians who made $233,000.
3. ID physicians practicing in the U.S. South Central had the highest compensation at $257,000. ID physicians in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic had an average compensation of $208,000.
4. Self-employed ID physicians earned 24 percent more than employed physicians, averaging $264,000 in 2017.
5. Of those polled, 82 percent said they received employed-subsidized health insurance and 77 percent received paid time off. Eight percent reported receiving no benefits.
6. Forty-seven percent reported feeling they received fair compensation.
7. Compared to 2016, the number of ID physicians participating in ACOs rallied from 41 percent to 43 percent in 2017.
