Independence = happiness? Survey says independent physicians happier than employed counterparts — 3 insights

Employed physicians are dissatisfied and angrier than their independent counterparts, according to a survey from analytics company Geneia, Healthcare Finance News reports.

Geneia surveyed 300 full-time physicians who have been practicing for more than four years post-residency.

Here's what you should know:

1. Sixty percent of all physicians said they think about their work negatively.

2. Sixty-nine percent of hospital-employed physicians said they talked about work negatively, compared to 51 percent of independently-employed physicians.

3. Seventy-two percent of hospital-employed physicians said burnout caused them to feel less empathy for patients, compared to 57 percent of independent physicians.
