Duke University Health System temporarily restricted patient visits to its hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers over the Christmas break due to a rise in influenza infections, according to a Herald Sun report.

Starting Dec. 26, ambulatory surgery center patient visits were limited to immediately family or designated caregivers age 18 and older who had no fever, cough or other flu-like symptoms.

The restrictions came as part of a multi-step approach to protect patients and prevent the spread of influenza at the health system and Duke Ambulatory Surgical Center and James E. Davis Ambulatory Surgical Center.
