Robert Pearl, MD, chairman of the Council of Accountable Physician Practices; CEO of The Permanente Medical Group; and president and CEO of the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group, delivered the keynote speech at the American Medical Group Association 2016 Institute for Quality Leadership conference.
The conference was held in San Francisco from Nov. 15 to Nov. 17, 2016.
Here are five takeaways:
1. During his speech, Dr. Pearl emphasized the need for disruptive-thinking physician leaders to lead the shift to value-based care.
2. Dr. Pearl noted economics, not politics, is driving healthcare, so the industry must change the reimbursement model.
3. Video and digital photography is transforming healthcare, allowing physicians to offer diagnoses remotely and kick-start treatment plans immediately.
4. Dr. Pearl mentioned data analytics is also a driver of change, which allows providers to pinpoint at-risk patients.
5. He suggested the industry leverage EMRs as a communication platform between providers.
