Here are four observations:

1. Decreasing needless antibiotic use could help reduce antibiotic resistance and cut healthcare costs.

2. Clorox Healthcare developed Nasal Antiseptic Swabs, a povidone-iodine alternative to antibiotics.

3. Providers may use the swabs for preoperative nasal decolonization instead of using unnecessary antibiotics.

4. SSIs cause an excess of $3.5 billion in healthcare costs, annually.

“Clorox Healthcare understands the urgency to act on antibiotic stewardship,” said Rosie D. Lyles, MD, head of clinical affairs, Clorox Healthcare. “Antibiotics save lives, but inappropriate prescribing and misuse puts patients at risk.”
