CDC to conference call Florida healthcare employees on Zika virus: 5 takeaways

Amidst growing concern over the Zika virus, the CDC will host a conference call today with Florida obstetricians and gynecologists, family physicians, nurses and other healthcare employees, according to the Miami Herald.

Here are five takeaways:

1. The CDC will discuss how Zika is transmitted, its symptoms, treatments as well as precautionary measures against the virus.

2. Although Florida has not reported any new cases of the virus since Feb. 8, Gov. Rick Scott sought help from the federal government in combating the virus.

3. The World Health Organization declared Zika virus a health emergency on Feb. 1.

4. In Florida, there are 16 confirmed cases of Zika infections.

5. All patients infected with the virus contracted it outside the country.
