1. The Obama administration asked for $1.9 billion in Zika funding three months ago.
2. The CDC said it is imperative to act swiftly in order to fight the virus.
3. The Senate approved $1.1 billion in funding to battle Zika as well as other spending measures.
4. While the GOP-dominated House has approved $622 million in funding, the Democrats are still pushing for the $1.9 billion.
5. Democrats argue the full funding amount is critical to contain the mosquitoes causing Zika, research Zika-causing birth defects and buy diagnostic tests.
6. The CDC also reported the Olympics should not be cancelled based on its Brazilian location, noting athletes aren’t at a heightened risk compared to pregnant women.
