In the report, the CDC analyzed data from more than 17,000 U.S. hospitals, long-term care hospitals and inpatient rehabilitation facilities.

1. The report found HAIs impact one in 25 patients in the nation.
2. Between 2008 and 2015, central-line associated bloodstream infections fell 50 percent.
3. C. difficile infection dropped 8 percent between 2011 and 2014.
4. Compared to a national baseline, MRSA-related infections fell 13 percent.
5. The CDC plans to focus on prevention efforts to combat antibiotic-resistant “superbugs,” according to CDC Director Thom Frieden, MD.
