Catholic Medical Center acquires germ-killing robot

The Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, N.H., has acquired the $90,000 Tru-D SmartUVC robot, becoming the first hospital in the state to use a Tru-D robot, which uses ultraviolet light to kill harmful germs, reports the New Hampshire Union Leader.

“Our commitment to quality means taking aggressive steps to protect patients from unforeseen circumstances,” said Dr. Joseph Pepe, president and CEO of CMC, to the New Hampshire Union Leader. “This high-tech solution is 99.9 percent effective in eliminating viruses, bacteria and other pathogens.”

According to the report, the Tru-D robot will finish the disinfection job using room-mapping technology after hospital cleaning staff first disinfects using traditional methods.
