Brigham and Women's Hospital staff members get a lesson in the arts — 5 observations

To foster enhanced communication with patients, Boston-based Brigham and Women's Hospital physicians and nurses and Harvard Medical students are participating in an art curriculum, according to CBS News.

Here are five observations:

1. The program takes place at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and aims to strengthen clinical and interpersonal skills.

2. Joel Katz, MD, created the art curriculum at Brigham and Women's, which has served as a model for several other hospitals.

3. The art curriculum seeks to improve team-building and get rid of the hospital hierarchy. In the program, junior staff members work with more senior staff members.

4. Through the program, physicians are collaborating with staff members, which the hospital hopes will transfer over to patient care.

5. Many physicians said the art curriculum has helped them process the stress of their jobs.
