4 ways administrators can secure management support in pursuit of CASC certification

Ann Geier, chief nursing officer for Alpharetta, Ga.-based Surgical Information Systems, outlined four tips for ASC administrators looking to secure management support when working toward the Certified Administrator Surgery Center certification.

Here are four CASC certification benefits administrators can use to garner administrative support when sitting for the exam:

1. The value of a CASC exam. The CASC exam can help prepare administrators perform their operational, financial and clinical duties better. Explaining how the education could help improve center performance may help secure support.

2. Benefits of annual requirements. To maintain the CASC credential, administrators must earn at least six administrator education units over a three-year recertification cycle through an educational course such as a conference session or webinar, meaning certificants must complete at least 30 hours of education covering ASC administrator responsibilities every three years.

3. Staff member training. Through their certification, CASC leaders may be able to pass on training to other ASC staff members.

4. Accreditation standards. Accreditation organizations often require ASCs show support for staff pursuing continuing education.
