Progressive Surgical Solutions outlined three essential infection control program elements ASCs should know.

Here are the key details to know:

1. Standard precautions. All ASC staff should be aware of the standard precautions concept, which includes hand hygiene, safe injection practices and personnel safety.

2. OR staging. Supplies maintained in the OR should be properly stored, and supplies used with subsequent patients should not be used until the time of surgery.

3. Surgical suite traffic. ORs should be cleaned between each surgical patient, and traffic should be properly delegated between restricted, semi-restricted and unrestricted areas.
