Long Island, N.Y.-based Northwell Health ran the study of 116 ambulatory care nurses.
Here are five key points:
1. Ninety-two percent of nurses comply with always wearing gloves, and 70 percent always wear a face mask.
2. Of the nurses, 63 percent always wash their hands after removing their gloves.
3. Eighty-two percent always wash their hands after provision of care.
4. About one-quarter of the nurses reported HCV often spreads through sexual contact, which is untrue. Fourteen percent believe HCV leads to premature death, which is also untrue.
5. The standard precautions are in place as the minimum infection control practices.
