UCSD has been testing the headset as a replacement for traditional robotic surgeries, according to the report.
As the device is more affordable for hospitals in comparison to most medical equipment and is more widely available than traditional surgical robots, it could be ideal for ASCs.
Several health systems have recently debuted the headset for a variety of different surgeries. In April, G. Russell Huffman, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Philadelphia-based Rothman Orthopedic Institute, completed the first reverse total shoulder arthroplasty using the Apple Vision Pro.
In addition, Osso VR launched Apple Vision Pro apps for carpal tunnel release and total knee replacement. The apps allow surgeons to walk through key steps on the procedures using Apple Vision Pro’s spatial computing.
