The states with the most top ASCs, by specialty

U.S. News & World Report has named the top ASCs for 2025 across four specialties: colonoscopy and endoscopy, orthopedics and spine, ophthalmology, and urology. 

The publication recognized the ASCs as “high performing,” evaluating nearly 5,000 ASCs. It factors in Medicare data to review complications, emergency room visits, unplanned hospitalizations and other undesirable outcomes. View the full methodology here.

California has the most top-ranked ASCs in the nation overall, with 95.

Here are the states with the most top-ranked ASCs by speciality: 

Urology: Maryland has the most top-ranked urology ASCs with 10. 

Ophthalmology: California has the most top-ranked ophthalmology ASCs with 33. 

Colonoscopy and endoscopy: California has the most top-ranked GI ASCs with 37. 

Orthopedics and spine: California and Florida tie for the most top-ranked orthopedic and spine ASCs, boasting 19 each.
