As the U.S. population ages, increasing the need for healthcare services, salaries are rising in a number of specialties.
According to data gathered by AMN Healthcare and published Sept. 29 by the American Medical Association, five specialties ranked at the top of a category known as “absolute demand,” or specialties that saw year-over-year salary increases.
The findings were based on a representative sample of the 1,420 search engagements conducted by AMN from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025. It includes data on starting salaries and other incentives offered by the company’s clients to physicians across the country.
Based on this data, the five specialties in most “absolute demand” were:
- Hematology/oncology.
- Gastroenterology.
- Endocrinology.
- Cardiology.
- Radiology.
