The Leapfrog Group to expand ASC reporting program

The Leapfrog Group is expanding its Ambulatory Surgery Center Public Reporting Program to include nearly 4,000 ASCs in the U.S.

The expanded program will use CMS public reporting, accreditation standards and its “ASC Survey 2.0” measure and report ASC performance, according to an April 1 news release from Leapfrog.

Leapfrog will score and report 13 quality and safety performance measures from CMS, report achievement on five additional metrics verified through accreditation, and score and report ASC performance on quality and safety measures from the revised and shortened survey.

The move comes amid a federal judge’s March 6 ruling that Leapfrog’s hospital safety grades for five Florida hospitals constitutes “an unfair and deceptive business practice.”

Five hospitals in Palm Beach (Fla.) Health Network, which is a division of Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, filed the most recent lawsuit April 30, 2025. The ruling found that Leapfrog deliberately punished the hospitals for not participating in its voluntary survey by assigning them artificially low scores with no scientific basis.

The revamped survey has measures such as how facilities approach patient rights and ethics, including taking responsibility for “never events” and health equity, as well as crucial patient safety practices.

Starting in July, Leapfrog will publicly report ASC patient safety and quality data on its website.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
