A July analysis by The Doctors Company, examining 1,968 closed malpractice claims between 2010 and 2023, highlights the most common contributing factors behind plastic surgery-related lawsuits.
According to the report, here are the five top contributing factors for plastic surgery malpractice claims:
- Technical skill: 77%
- Patient behavior: 57%
- Communication: 48%
- Clinical judgment: 36%
- Documentation: 27%
Of the 1,968 claims studied, 33% resulted in an indemnity payment to the patient, with an average payout of $177,000, according to the report.
