After a long fight and a surgical procedure, Tiffany was euthanized Aug. 20 after surgeons determined the cancer had metastasized to her abdominal wall. There were two large masses in Tiffany’s abdomen.
Tiffany’s surgical team consisted of the zoo’s veterinarian staff, Amy Guernsey-Youngblood of Topeka, Kan.-based University Veterinary Care Center and surgeons from Topeka-based Tallgrass Surgical Center.
Zoo Director Brendan Wiley remembered Tiffany in a release.
“She was a big part of the persona of our zoo,” he said. “It seemed like everyone knew who Tiffany was.”
Tiffany was born in the Kansas City Zoo in 1968. She arrived in Topeka in 1969.
