During the month of August, ASC awareness month gives ASCs the opportunity to promote their services. A number of ASC leaders weighed in on how to do just that with ASC software developer Surgical Information Systems.

On why it’s important for ASCs to promote themselves:

  • Jennifer Bednarchik of the Livonia (Mich.) Outpatient Surgery Center said it’s important to educate the public, especially the elderly, that they don’t have to go to a hospital to receive quality care.
  • Natalya Haddix of the Southwest Surgical Suites in Fort Wayne, Ind. said patients should know about the additional benefits offered at an ASC, including individualized patient care and lower infection rates.

How ASCs can raise awareness:

  • Bill MacKnight of the Beltline Surgery Center in Sunnyvale, Texas, said ASCs can publicize quality measurement results and the results of patient satisfaction surveys to draw in more patients through physician referrals.
  • Laura Picano-Wilson, Livonia Outpatient Surgery Center said ASCs can invite elected officials to tour the facility to review quality data and get a better idea about the procedures performed there.
