Here’s what you should know:
1. The ransomware attack targeted the center’s server. According to a release from the center, the server contained patient data including names, dates of birth, health and treatment information and Social Security numbers.
2. According to the release, the surgery center is “not currently aware,” of the records being accessed, used or disclosed. According to HHS the incident took place between April 13 and April 17.
3. The center worked with a third party expert to attempt to recover the affected data and to ensure the server was at no risk of future attacks.
4. The center is offering all affected parties 12 months of credit monitoring service. It also provided information to consumers on how to avoid identify theft.
