Here are four things to know:
1. Paul DiGiorgi, MD, a cardiothoracic surgeon, along with Randall Buss, MD, George M. Comas, MD, and Brian Hummel, MD, are a few of the specialists involved in the concept of “pre-habbing.”
2. Orthopedic surgeons have long embraced the concept of pre-habbing, being that joint replacement is an elective procedure, patients can decide when to have it done.
3. Edward Humbert, DO, an orthopedic surgeon with Joint Implant Surgeons of Florida, said pre-hab is both the physical and educational process of preparing total joint patients for their experience.
4. The concept of pre-habbing has not really been done with a multidisciplinary team especially in the heart and lung field, said Dr. DiGiorgi.
