Physician convicted for illegal opioid prescription

Las Vegas-based physician William Alvear, MD, was convicted of unlawful distribution of opioid medications.

Dr. Alvear unlawfully distributed hydrocodone and alprazolam without a legitimate professional practice, according to a Nov. 30 news release from the Justice Department. 

He was convicted on three counts of distributing a Schedule II controlled substance and five counts of distributing a Schedule IV controlled substance.
