Portland-based Oath Surgical has performed the first Genio sleep apnea implant procedure in Oregon and the first in the Pacific Northwest to take place in an ASC setting, according to an Aug. 25 news release shared with Becker’s.
The procedure was performed by Andrew Patel, MD, a head and neck surgeon at Oath Surgical’s downtown Portland facility. Genio, developed by Nyxoah, is an FDA-approved bilateral hypoglossal nerve stimulation therapy for moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea that requires only a single incision and has no implanted battery.
The milestone follows Oath’s completion earlier this year of the first robotic prostatectomy performed at an outpatient surgery center in the Pacific Northwest.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
