The Mount Kisco (N.Y.) Surgery Center has agreed to pay $527,500 to settle a class-action lawsuit involving a data breach from November 2023, according to a May 6 report from Claim Depot.
The ASC detected unusual activity in an employee’s email account in November 2023, when certain files stored within email accounts were accessed by an unauthorized party.
The cyberattack may have exposed patient data including names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, dates of birth, medical information, health insurance information and financial account information.
The Mount Kisco Surgery Center has denied any wrongdoing, but agreed to settle to avoid the costs, risks and uncertainties of continued litigation, the report said.
