Michigan surgery center reports data breach

Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Hand & Plastic Surgery Centre, which does business as Elite Plastic Surgery, has reported a data breach affecting 19,846 individuals. 

According to the notice, posted to ClassAction.org, Elite Plastic Surgery detected an unauthorized party attempting to access its computer network Jan. 29. The breach was addressed and investigated with the support of “independent IT security and forensic experts,” according to the report.

The investigation revealed that the compromised information may have included names, birth dates, Social Security numbers, health insurance details and protected health information. Elite Plastic Surgery is mailing letters to affected individuals.
