Sault Ste. Marie-based MyMichigan Medical Center Sault plans to expand its outpatient surgery department as part of a nearly $19 million renovation project at its downtown campus.
The project includes an addition to the hospital’s main building that will add 18 outpatient surgery patient rooms. Construction is expected to begin in June, pending certificate-of-need approval from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Service, according to a May 14 news release.
The outpatient surgery expansion is intended to improve patient privacy, streamline surgical workflows and support future growth.
The broader renovation project also includes relocating the hospital’s behavioral health unit to the main campus and remodeling its long term care unit. The overall investment includes $3.6 million in state grant funding, according to the release.
