In Louisiana, where 81 percent of the state is considered to have primary care physician shortages, the law would expand incentive and loan repayment programs to encourage physicians to leave private practice to serve in hospitals and clinics located in underserved areas, the report says.
According to U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, the Affordable Care Act will encourage more doctors and nurses to practice in rural communities through additional scholarships, loan repayments and Medicare payment incentives
