The San Jose, Sunnyvale and Santa Clara, Calif., metropolitan area is the highest-paying region for registered nurses to practice in, according to May 2024 data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, published April 2.
RNs working in the area earn an average of $189,880 annually. In addition, California is the highest-paid state for RNs, at $148,330.
Here are the five highest-paid metropolitan areas for RNs:
1. San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, Calif.: $189,880
2. San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont, Calif.: $178,450
3. Vallejo, Calif.: $175,620
4. Santa Rosa-Petaluma, Calif.: $171,490
5. Sacramento-Roseville-Folsom, Calif.: $163,020
