A registered nurse who filed a lawsuit about unethical practices and a toxic work environment at an ASC in Ames, Iowa, has dismissed her case, Ames Tribune reported Aug. 24.
What happened?
- Tonya Becker, RN, filed a lawsuit in March against the now-closed Sturm Cosmetic Surgery Center and its head surgeon, Lindsay Sturm, MD, alleging she was wrongfully terminated in retaliation.
- She was the third person since 2023 to sue Sturm Cosmetic Surgery, which abruptly closed in February. Two separate malpractice lawsuits were also filed against the center: one for wrongful death and another seeking damages over a “negligent procedure.”
- Sturm Cosmetic Surgery was dismissed from Ms. Becker’s lawsuit with prejudice on Aug. 21. Dr. Sturm was dismissed without prejudice after filing for bankruptcy in June.
- Dr. Sturm and her husband, Sean Sturm, MD, an anesthesiologist at McFarland Clinic, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on June 14, according to court records.
