Florida ASC performs new procedure to treat stress urinary incontinence

Tampa, Fla.-based Brandon Healthplex became the first center in the west Florida region to perform a procedure that treats stress urinary incontinence, according to a May 26 news release.

The procedure was performed by Raviender Bukkapatnam, MD, the medical director of Urology at Tampa General Hospital, which owns the ASC. The procedure, which takes 10-15 minutes to perform, involved injecting Bulkamid into the urethral wall to support the closing mechanism of the urethra. The FDA approved Bulkamid in 2020.
