The four market areas make up 93 million square feet of laboratory and good manufacturing practices space and have a future construction and pipeline space of 33.2 million square feet, according to the report.
In the Boston market, Cambridge remains the dominant area, and fierce competition has increased prices for laboratory space. The southern part of San Francisco is an emerging area for top life science research and development, while in San Diego, the Torrey Pines neighborhoods have very low laboratory vacancy rates. In the Research Triangle of North Carolina, laboratory space is tied closely to universities.
