Average Compensation for 7 Specialties Found in Surgery Centers

Jackson & Coker, provider of locum tenens and physician permanent placement, has released the results of its 2011-2012 physician compensation survey, which is used in the company’s Provider “Contribution to Operations” Percentage Calculator.

Here is the total average compensation for seven specialties commonly found in ambulatory surgery centers, according to the Jackson & Coker Calculator. Also included is the national average compensation and average benefits which make up the total average compensation. Specialties are listed in order of highest total average compensation.

 

1. Orthopedic surgery: $600,834

– National average compensation: $500,695 / Average benefits: $100,139

 

2. Gastroenterology: $482,090

– National average compensation: $401,742 / Average benefits: $80,348

 

3. Urology: $475,169

– National average compensation: $395,974 / Average benefits: $79,195

 

4. Anesthesiology: $455,174

– National average compensation: $379,311 / Average benefits: $75,862

 

5. General surgery: $404,347

– National average compensation: $336,956 / Average benefits: $67,391

 

6. Otolaryngology: $441,668

– National average compensation: $368,057 / Average benefits: $73,611

 

7. Ophthalmology: $376,917

– National average compensation: $314,098 / Average benefits: $62,820
