Summit, N.J.-based Atlantic Health Medical Center has broken ground on an expansion of its advanced surgery center.
The $70 million project will increase the number of operating rooms from 20 to 26, a 50-bay pre-operative and post-operative care unit and six integrated ORs equipped for robotics, intraoperative imaging and minimally invasive procedures, according to an Aug. 21 news release from Atlantic Health.
The center’s surgical volume increased 22% from 2021 to 2025 and robotic surgery cases grew 132% from 2022 to 2025. Surgical volumes are expected to increase from more than 18,000 in 2025 to more than 24,000 in another 10 years.
The expansion will be completed over the next three to four years, the release said.
