ASC administrator Catherine Sayers leverages her healthcare skills to help animals in need

It is important to find passion in work, but discovering an outlet in a hobby may also prove beneficial. Catherine Sayers, RN, MBA, MSHA, director of operations at Pinnacle III and administrator of Skyline Endoscopy Center in Loveland, Colo., found that love in animals.

"I think it's important to love your work, but it's also important to have something that fulfills you in another way outside of your work environment," says Ms. Sayers.

In November 2010, Ms. Sayers began volunteering at the Larimer Humane Society, helping in vet services. Her OR nursing background helped prepare her for the role of prepping animals for surgery and assisting in recovery.

"It's pretty similar to being an OR nurse, just adjusting it to animals," says Ms. Sayers. "[The skill set] translated pretty well." Ms. Sayers also spends her time walking dogs and helping with behavioral evaluations. She even adopted her own golden retriever, named Cotton, from the society.

Her administrator background and Masters degrees in business and health administration aided in her election to the Larimer Humane Society board of directors. Ms. Sayers will soon start her second three-year term in the role and will serve as treasurer for this upcoming term.

"I believe I was nominated and elected for this role because my administrator background includes working with and understanding financial statements and budgets," she says.
