The end of the year is a popular time for bariatric procedures because patients might have met their insurance deductibles and can get insurance to cover more of the often expensive procedures. Michael H. Wood, MD, medical director of the bariatric surgery program at Detroit Medical Center’s Harper University Hospital, told the Wall Street Journal that he expects to see an increase of 10 percent during the month of December.
