9 states with fewer than 100 surgeons

Nine U.S. states, including Nevada and New Mexico, have fewer than 100 practicing surgeons, according to data published April 25 from the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ occupational employment statistics survey.

States with fewer than 100 surgeons: 

1. Nevada: 90 

2. Mississippi: 80 

3. New Mexico: 70 

4. Vermont: 70 

5. Delaware: 60 

6. Arkansas: 60 

7. Montana: 60 

8. Rhode Island: 40 

9. Kansas: 30
