6 insights on Clemson Eye being the 1st Upstate surgery center to offer implant for farsightedness

Greenville, S.C.-based Clemson Eye is the first Upstate eye surgery center to offer patients a surgical implant to correct farsightedness, according to Update Business Journal.

Here are six insights:

1. On May 4, Clemson Eye will unveil its new facility.

2. The facility is 18,500 square feet and houses 11 treatment rooms.

3. The Kamra implant 6.8 mm ring increases the depth of focus by only letting focused light enter the eye.

4. Surgeons place the implant in the patient’s non-dominant eye’s front pupil and inside of the cornea.

5. The FDA approved the implant in the United States in April 2015.

6. The procedure costs $4,500.
