1. Questions instead of answers. While leaders today are often seen as having the answers or last word, a quality more predictive of future success is the ability to ask the right questions.
2. Bottom-up decisions. Pulling information from the front-lines to make decisions, rather than issuing edicts from on-high is much more likely to keep businesses connected with their audiences.
3. Chaos learning. Forget best practices and orderly learning schemes. The best leaders will be able to to predict where the next market disruptions and opportunities exist. Leaders should be able to move beyond proven methods into the unknown to make the most of their markets.
4. Growth focus. Efficiency optimization is the name of the game now, but when processes eventually become efficient, the ability to facilitate growth will become even more important.
5. Purpose. For future employees, jobs may not just pay the bills. More than ever, employees derive a sense of purpose and identity from their workplaces. Excellent leaders will be able to demonstrate and share this purpose among members of their organizations.
