Here are five main challenges:
1. Many ASCs lack a dedicated IT professional who is on staff and on call 24/7.
2. Staff members often don’t have IT training and should be educated about certain cybersecurity risks, such as opening email attachments.
3. ASCs have trouble keeping up-to-date with technology and monitoring compliance with security best practices due to their limited resources.
4. Most ASCs automate their administrative processes through practice management systems, but few have implemented EHRs and lack knowledge about them.
5. Integrating medical equipment with information systems creates even more risks, especially if the data isn’t encrypted.
