Here are five thoughts from Dr. Madara:
1. Despite the leaps and bounds in technological advancements, there are numerous tools that actually impede patient care, such as ineffective electronic health records and the numerous direct-to-consumer digital health products.
2. These ineffectual tools are the digital equivalent of “snake oil” of the early 21st Century.
3. Additionally, there are a plethora of books touting healthcare technology’s future and claim IT will surpass the need for physicians.
4. However, according to Dr. Madara, “the future is not about eliminating physicians, it’s about leveraging physicians.”
5. The way forward involves embedding physician knowledge in new digital technologies and products and strengthening the patient-physician relationship.
