New Jersey Physician Group Says EHR Cost Could Threaten Solo Practices

The president of the New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians said that the cost and time required to implement electronic medical records may threaten the sustainability of solo practices, according to an NJ Biz report.

Salvatore Bernardo, Jr., MD, said that it cost nearly $30,000 out of “personal earnings” to implement the system, and that it would not have been possible without reimbursement from his affiliated hospital. Solo practices that do not have access to financial backing “may no longer be able to exist” under this model, he said.
