In 2016, SurgCenter centers performed a record 7,000 joint replacements, approximately. Seventy-nine centers across 19 states performed the procedures.
Those centers discharged more than 96 percent of patients the same day. Approximately 94 percent of hip patients and 99 percent of knee replacement patients went home on the same day.
SurgCenter Principal and CEO Stacey Berner, MD, praised the news by saying outcomes are better in outpatient centers than in hospitals.
