New GA Surgery Center in Cobb for WellStar Health Receives State Approval

Plans for WellStar Health System, based in Marieta, Ga., to build a new ambulatory surgery center in Cobb, Ga., are back on track following approval from the state Department of Community Health, according to a Marietta Daily Journal report.

WellStar had already received the certificate of need for the new ASC, but Atlanta-based Northside Hospital appealed the CON earlier this year. Following a series of hearings, the Department of Community Health approved the WellStar CON again.

WellStar plans to invest $80 million into a roughly 250,000-square foot facility — called East Cobb Health Park — that would include the surgery center and other services, according to earlier reports. WellStar hopes to open East Cobb Health Park, which would not be attached to a hospital, in summer 2013.
