Steve Corl understands what goes into successfully operating a surgery center. Having served as administrator of Mackinaw Surgery Center in Saginaw, Mich., for nearly six years, Mr. Corl possesses a deep understanding of business operations and management that has helped keep the 16,000-square-foot center open for so many years.

Part of that successful management includes maintaining effective communications throughout the surgery center. Mackinaw Surgery Center holds weekly nursing meetings to address pressing staff issues or concerns. “As issues and concerns were followed up on and resolved, the staff could decide to have the meetings less often,” Mr. Corl says. Mr. Corl is also a strong proponent of employee recognition and individual check-ins between managers and employees.

Mr. Corl has also helped the surgery center achieve a 95 percent patient satisfaction rating and full accreditation by CMS and the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program. In addition to his administrative duties at Mackinaw Surgery Center, Mr. Corl also serves as second vice president of the Michigan Ambulatory Surgery Association.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
