ASC Leader to Know: Dr. Tom Bombardier of Ambulatory Surgical Centers of America

Tom Bombardier, MD, is the chief operating officer and one of three founding principals at ASCOA.Tom Bombardier, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist who is also the chief operating officer and one of three founding principals at Ambulatory Surgical Centers of America. ASCOA is a physician-owned ASC development and management company that has successfully helped physicians build and operate their own surgical facilities since 1984.

Dr. Bombardier has long demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit and business savvy in the ASC industry. Prior to founding ASCOA, Dr. Bombardier established the largest ophthalmic practice in western Massachusetts, two ambulatory surgery centers and a regional referral center. He has also been a real estate developer on Cape Cod, Mass., for nearly two decades.

In addition to his business ventures, Dr. Bombardier has presented his expert insight and opinions on the state of the ASC industry, ASC turnarounds and healthcare reform at Becker's Healthcare conferences. At the 9th Annual Orthopedic, Spine and Pain Management-Driven ASC Conference in Chicago last June, Dr. Bombardier discussed considerations for ASCs in regards to whether in-network or out-of-network status makes better business sense, ultimately confiding that "out-of-network is going away."

Dr. Bombardier is a graduate of Amherst College, Albany Medical College and Louisiana State University residency program. He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
